چکیده

Magnetization as a function of strain of a Ni48.5Mn30.8Ga20.7 single crystal during 9 MPa compressive loading test was obtained by means of vibrating coil magnetometry for different static magnetic fields up to 1.15 T. The dependency is monotonic, nonlinear and shows a small hysteresis. Maximum reversible change of magnetization is 30% for a 0.6 T field, and irreversible change of about 50% is observed for a 0.4 T field. The magnetization dependencies determined are compared with a simple linear model. 2006 Acta Materialia Inc. Published by Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Experimental Study on the Magnetomechanical Characteristics of Ni-Mn-Ga Ferromagnetic Shape Memory Alloy Single Crystals

Magnetic shape memory properties of Ni-Mn-Ga single crystals were characterized by measurement of stress-induced martensite reorientation under constant magnetic fields. Also magnetic field-induced strain as a function of the applied magnetic field under different constant compressive stress levels has been investigated. All the experiments were performed at room temperature in which the sample...

Magnetomechanical properties of a high-temperature Ni–Mn–Ga magnetic shape memory actuator material

A Ni–Mn–Ga single crystal with a phase transformation temperature above 350 K is investigated. The material demonstrates a magnetic field-induced strain (MFIS) of 7% at room temperature and of 4.2% at 350 K. The temperature dependence of the magnetic anisotropy and of the saturation magnetization has been studied in detail. At 350 K a maximum magnetic stress of 1.6 MPa and a twinning stress of ...

Dynamic Response in the Low-kHz Range and Delta-E Effect in Ferromagnetic Shape Memory Ni-Mn-Ga

Recent work on ferromagnetic shape memory nickelmanganese-gallium (Ni-Mn-Ga) has demonstrated several characteristics which make this material attractive as an active element for the next generation of intelligent transducers. Alloys of martensitic Ni-Mn-Ga can strain up to 6% as a result of the rotation of twin variants and associated twin boundary motion which occur in these materials in resp...

Temperature dependence of reversible field-induced strain in Ni–Mn–Ga single crystal

Temperature dependence of reversible magnetic shape memory effect and magnetization changes were studied in Ni49.7Mn29.1Ga21.2. The twinning stress, equivalent magnetic stress, switching field and maximum strain all increase with decreasing temperature. A 5–6% reversible strain is observed in the temperature range of 307–263 K and it sharply decreases to 1–2% at temperatures below 263 K. The ma...

Martensitic Ni-Mn-Ga alloys with the five layered modulated structure (10M) provide a way to produce motion by the magnetic shape memory (MSM) effect. MSM actuation is based on alternating the twin structure by applying a magnetic field and/or mechanical stress at suitable ranges. For the actuator use, it is necessary to understand the long-term cyclic magneto-mechanical loading behavior of the...
